Burnaby

Burnaby is a municipality in British Columbia, Canada. It is located in the Greater Vancouver area and has a population of over 249,000. Burnaby covers a total area of 90.57 square kilometers and is home to a number of parks, recreation facilities, and cultural attractions. The city is also known for its diverse population, with people from all over the world making it their home. It was one of the first suburbs that formed in response to increasing population of Vancouver. The city serves as a transportation hub for many services in the area and provides major commercial services. In 1960 Simon Fraser University and British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) helped Burnaby become more of an urban centre. in 1992, after 100 years after incorporation, Burnaby became it's own city. Burnaby has an oceanic climate with mild, dry summers and cool rainy winters. The professional soccer team, The Vancouver Whitecaps, originated in Burnaby and played at the Swangard Stadium, before moving to BC Place to join the Major League Soccer Association. There have been many NHL players who came from Burnaby including, Glenn Anderson, Kris Chucko, Jason LaBarbera , Darren McCarty - just to name a few. Burnaby has also been home to many politicians, including former premier Christy Clark. Burnaby has it all!
