The Municipality of Chetwynd is located in the Peace River region of British Columbia. The municipality has a population of 2302 and an area of 63.55 km². Chetwynd is a vibrant community with a variety of businesses and amenities. The municipality is committed to providing a high quality of life for its residents. The town was developed in the 1950s and used as a transshipment point during the construction of the many hydroelectic dams in the area. Through the 60 and 70s Canfor and West Fraser Timber were the towns two biggest employers. Eventually Castgard became Forestry Capital of Canada ion 1992. Early on the town had rodeo grounds, curling rink and a public library. In the the 70s came a hospital and an airport. Today the town still serves as a hub for it's local farmers and ranchers along with forestry workers. In Chetwynd you will find a slower pace of lie among it's small 2000 population. If visiting the area, you are probably here for the nature peacefulness of this small town. The most notable and memorable lake in the area is "Heart Lake", which if you guess it, yes it is shaped as a perfect heart. This cute lake is stocked with Eastern Brook Trout and Rainbow Trout. Leave the gas motors at home because this lake is electric motors only. With lots of lakes, hiking trails and a golf course, you will leave feeling refreshed and perhaps transported back to more simpler times.
