Delta

Delta is a municipality in British Columbia and is part of Metro Vancouver. With a population of 108455, it is the 4th largest municipality in the Metro Vancouver area. Delta covers an area of 179.66 square kilometers and is made up of three distinct communities - Ladner, Tsawwassen, and North Delta. The first European settler mistaken Delta for an island and named it, Isla de Cepeda because it is boarded by water on three sides. In 1879 the area was incorporated as a municipality and named, The Corporation of Delta. Delta was initially cut off from other Metro Vancouver cities until the completion of the George Massey Tunnel in 1959 and the opening of the Tsawwassen Ferry Terminal in 1960. Delta has a relatively dry and sunny climate compared to other Metro Vancouver towns. Delta hosts Canada's largest cycling event annually in July called the Tour de Delta. Originating in 2001 as a male only race, it opened up to females in 2011 and it it part of British Columbia's Superweek. Delta has great opportunity for people interested in the arts and performing . With a performing arts centre in Tsawwassen and North delta, everyone will find a median to pour their creativity into.
