Elkford is a municipality located in the East Kootenay region of British Columbia. With a population of 2749, Elkford is a great place to call home. The municipality covers an area of 108.12 square kilometers and is an excellent place to enjoy the outdoors. The area is famous for grizzly and black bears, mountain goats, bighorn sheep, moose, lynx, wolves, wolverines, foxes cougars, elk, deer and so much more. Elkford encourages their residences to keep nature wild by respecting the animals habitats, giving them lots of space and not feeding any wildlife. Elkford has a very active hunting community who belong to the - The Elkford Rod and Gun Club, that has been running for over 40 years. Their purpose is to ensure the sound, long-term management of fish, wildlife, park and outdoor recreational resources in the best interest of all the residents. They also educate the public on how the effects of pollution can harm the wildlife in the area. Downtown Elkford brose the local stores and indulge in some tasty treats at one of the town's bistros. There five open pit coal mines within one hour of Elkford, making the mining industry a large source of employment for the area. With easy access to hiking, fishing, and camping, Elkford is the perfect place to get away from it all.
