Gibsons

Gibsons is a municipality located on the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia. With a population of 4758, it is a thriving community with a variety of amenities and activities. The municipality covers 4.31 square kilometers and is a great place to live, work, and play. The first people of the area were the Skwxwu7mesh First Nations. They used the area as a seasonal fishing village. The first European settler was George Gibson who built his homestead in in 1886. Within two years he built a two story home and planted 100 fruit trees. He started selling his produce to Vancouver and encouraged other to settle in the area. Today you can find the harbor of Gibsons full of small fishing boats, float planes, tugboats, sailboats and marine life. If your time it right, you can buy freshly caught seafood rightr off the backs of fishing boats. Doesn't get any fresher than that! Fun fact : the world -famous television show, The Beachcombers was filmed at Molly's Beach Restaurant. Downtown Gibsons you can find art galleries, artesian shops, bakeries, cafes and a jewelry store full of treasures. Enjoy the small quiet town from one of the local beaches and parks. The town hosts an annual Jazz festival, canoeing races and weekly live music in the summer. Gibsons operates with sustainability and smart growth at the forefront of their businesses. The Coastal Resilience Project aims to provide a quantitative assessment of the benefits coastal natural assets can offer for flood and erosion protection from coastal storms in Gibsons and support the development of the Coastal toolbox.
