Granisle

Granisle is a beautiful municipality located in the Bulkley-Nechako Regional District of British Columbia. With a population of 337, this municipality is perfect for those looking for a quiet and relaxing community. Granisle is home to a variety of businesses and amenities, including a golf course, a marina, and several restaurants. This municipality is also perfect for nature lovers, as it is surrounded by forests and lakes. Granisle was founded in the late 1960s and early 1970s on the shores of Babine Lake as a home for families in the mining industries. After the last mine shut down in 1992 the town became a retirement destination. Tourism is now the towns largest industry. In 1971 a Columbian Mammoth skeleton was found by a machine operator. Through radiocarbon dating it is believed the animal died the area 34,000 years ago. Replicas and information about the mammoth can be found at the Granisle Museum. Fisherman plant them selves on Babine Lake in hopes of catching beautiful rainbow trout and Char. Sockeye salmon return to the waters to spawn from late summer to early fall.
