Keremeos is a beautiful municipality located in the Okanagan-Similkameen region of British Columbia. With a population of just over 1600 people, Keremeos is the perfect size for those looking for a smaller community feel. The area offers stunning scenery, with mountains, valleys and lakes all nearby, making it a great place to enjoy the great outdoors. In 1909 George Kirby purchased land along the Similkameen River in anticipation of the V.V. & E Railway coming to the area. Shortly after the railway made it's way from the United States, the town was incorporated in 1956. The town's main industries are horticulture, agriculture, ranching and wine making. In addition to many family owned, small fruit stands along the sides of the road and highway leading into it. Keremeos is a great place to enjoy some of the best fruit in the province, as the area is well known for its fruit farms and orchards. The warm dry climate provides a longer growing season than other parts of the province. The community has a great little recreation centre that features a bowling alley, fitness room, squash and racquetball court, indoor climbing wall and an outdoor ice rink. Seperate to the recreation centre, Keremeos has an outdoor community pool that operates in the summer months and many kids take swimming lessons as well as enjoy public swim. Keremeos has a health centre that treats acute emergencies and supports the public. Most hot sunny days you will find people gathered at the river for the swim. A true small town feeling is welcomed in Keremeos.
