Kimberley is a municipality in the East Kootenay region of British Columbia with a population of 8115. The area is 60.51 km². Kimberley was names in 1896 after a mine in South Africa. From 1917 to 2001 it had the worlds largest lead-zinc mine, known as the Sullivan Mine. Kimberley is a popular tourist destination and a big part of that is the Kimberley Alpine Resort. Another fun tourist attraction are the underground mining railways that features 750-foot-long tunnels. The Kimberley Nature park is the largest urban park in Canada, at 1,977 acres. Fun Fact: Kimberley has the largest free-standing cuckoo clock in Canada. The town is home to the Kimberley Dynamiters - a Junior B hockey team that provides fast paced entertainment all winter long! Of course skiing is a popular sport in this mountain town and the resort hosts ski completions regularly. There are five major golf courses in the area, and eight all within an hours drive. The town has a vibrant arts and culture community with multiple festivals, farmers markets, live music events and more happening through out the summer. The musuem shares history, artifacts, epic adventures and charming stories of the towns history. Kimberley is a great place to live with many amenities and activities available. There is something for everyone in Kimberley!
