About

The friendly village of Masset is located on the north coast of British Columbia. With a population of just 838, Masset is a great place to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life. The village is situated on 20.69 square kilometers of land and is surrounded by stunning natural beauty. Masset has been home to the Haida people for over 13,000 years. Before European settlers the islands were home to tens of thousands of aboriginal people. This area has a rich history of living with the land and resources. Haida Gwaii was the first place recorded in British Colombia by European settlers in 1774. In the 1800s the only visitors to the area were fur traders and the first non-Haida settlers arrived in the early 1900s. The town survived off an economy of fishing and seafood processing until the 1970s when the small naval communication station received an expansion. Today fishing and tourism are main attractors to the island. Masset is a natural wonder full of beauty, history, community and friendship. Besides world-class sport fishing, Masset is host to amazing hiking and backpacking trails. With over 100 km of trail networks just 10km east of town. Looking over the Dixon entrance and the islands of southern Alaksa , you will find Masset's golf course. People come to camp, explore, and be immersed in the history and culture of Masset. Whether you're looking to relax and rejuvenate, or explore and adventure, Masset is the perfect place for you.
