Metchosin

Located just a short drive from Victoria, Metchosin is a rural municipality that offers residents a slower paced lifestyle. With a population of just over 5000 people, Metchosin is the perfect place to raise a family or enjoy a quieter retirement. The municipality is also home to a number of parks and nature reserves, making it a great place to get back to nature. The Metchosin area has been inhabited by people long before European settlers. The Beecher Bay'Scia'new First Nations have a rich history with the lands. The first European contract with Metchosin was in 1790 and in 1842 , James Douglas looked at Metchosin as a possible site for a Hudson bay Company Trading Post. That post soon became Fort Victoria. After WWII the population started to grow. Beaches of Metchosin overlook the Strait of Juan de Fuca and the Olympic Mountains. Rare plant species flourish in such rugged, untouched creeks and streams that roll through lowlands and the sea. Metchosinas many great communities that support the communities such as, 4-h, museum society, seniors association, arts and culture, farmers markets and many more. Securing the forested lands around Metchosin are five regional parks all maintained and managed by the CRD. Downtown you will find cute shops, artisian bakeries and coffee shops like the Broken Paddle. Maybe the Broken Paddle will be the thing that makes you want to say in Metchosin!
