About

The municipality of Midway is located in the Kootenay Boundary region of British Columbia. It has a population of 651 and an area of 12.23 km². Midway is a great place to live, work, and play. It offers a variety of activities and amenities for residents and visitors alike. Only 50 kms to Osoyoos, midway is a great option if you are looking for more of a rural lifestyle. No one officially knows why in 1895 Capt. Robert C. Adams changed the name to Midway from Eholt. One reasonable explanation could be because it is midway between the Pacific Ocean and the Rocky Mountains. Even though a town was established around the 1890s, and the mining industry was booming, the town didn't officially incorporate until 1964. The town has an ice arena, curling club, golf course and two ski resorts are close to the area. Residents of midway enjoy a hidden network of trails used for hiking, trail running and mountain biking. The Kettle Valley Rail Trail is a historical fun experience. Biking or hiking over old railway bridges, through tunnels and across beautiful landscape of British Columbia you wouldn't otherwise see, the rail trail starts in Midway and goes all the way to hope. If you're in need of some food to fuel your next strech of the trail, stop at one of the local restaurants downtown. Campgrounds along the trail and around Midway are plentiful. Enjoy this small town on your tour through the Kootenays.
