Nakusp

Nakusp is a charming municipality situated in the Central Kootenay region of British Columbia. With a population of just over 1500 people, Nakusp is the perfect size for those looking for a tight-knit community. The town is located on the shores of Upper Arrow Lake and surrounded by stunning natural scenery. Outdoor enthusiasts will love the endless opportunities for hiking, biking, and exploring in the area. Nakusp also has a thriving arts and culture scene with several galleries and performance venues. Passengers and freight started to arrive via CP rail instead of steamboats from the United States. The railway provided a more predictable mode of transportation year round. In the early 1900's mining was a driving force behind the communities development, by the 30s and into the 50s sawmills and forestry had a large presence within the town. Besides forestry, tourism has now become a a base for the economy of Nakusp. Nakusp Hot Springs is a resort located about 14 km for the village and has a hot tub, hot pools, cabins and campsites available. The hot water is piped in from a natural spring about about half a mile away. There are also natural hot springs to discover about 15mins before town. These are earth bottomed, rock encircled, o' natural hot springs along the river. Nakusp has one of the nicest public beaches in the area. White sand, big beach, floating docks, it is endless summer fun for families and visitors. If travelling from Revelstoke or Vernon, jump aboard one of the small car ferries and take in the sites of Arrow Lake.
