The Northern Rockies Regional Municipality is located in the Northern Rockies region of British Columbia. The municipality has a population of 3947 and an area of 8,4.0 km². The municipality is a popular tourist destination due to its many recreational opportunities. All four seasons have something great to offer the residents and tourist of the Rockies. Many lakes make fishing, kayaking, paddle boarding and canoeing a favourite summer holiday, or a way to explore the vast amount of untouched shorelines. Hike casual trails or plan an epic backcountry trip in the mountains. You might even be treated to a spectacular display of the Northern Lights, an event that can usually only be witnessed in Northern Communities. Freely glide around on frozen lakes in the winter, snowshoe into small mountain lakes, hike to frozen waterfalls and catch fresh fish all year long. A small airport acts as the gate keeper to explore the North since 1941. Fort Nelson amalgamated into the NRRD in 2009 which has joined the two municipalities together. Schools in The Northern Rockies fall under School District #81 (Fort Nelson) with five schools included. In town enjoy a 25metre Aquatic Centre with 6 lanes and a 1 meter and 3 meter diving boards. Take advantage of the long days at the Hills Golf and Country Club. The area has all amenities you would hope for and more wilderness than you could imagine.
