Port Alberni is a beautiful city located in the heart of Vancouver Island in British Columbia. The city has a population of 18,259 and covers 19.66 square kilometers. The city is surrounded by stunning mountains and is home to many outdoor activities and attractions. The city lies within the Alberni Valley at the head of the Albermi Inlet, Vancouver Island's longest inlet. Port Alberni serves as a hub for local, government and provides medical care through the West Coast General Hospital for surrounding communities such as Bamfield, Tofino and Ucluelet. Even though Port Alberni was a once failed mill town it is now a prospering tourist destination with forestry still contributing to the economy. From the 50s-70s the Port Alberni forestry workers were some of the highest paid on the country. Fun fact: Port Alberni has been designated as the Salmon Capital of the World and the World Fishing.
