About

The municipality of Princeton is located in the Okanagan-Similkameen regional district of British Columbia. With a population of 2894, it is a great place to raise a family or retire. The municipality covers an area of 59.28 km² and is home to many great amenities. Princeton was originally names "Prince Town" after Prince Edward had the honour of visiting in 1860. Fun Fact : until 1960 Princeton was home to The Princeton Brewery, known for their Gold Lager beer. The brewery kept the beer supply cold by storing it in the Vermillion Cave. The Vermillion Cave was a safe haven for Indigenous people for centuries earlier. Eventually European Settlers started to take shelter in it and it became unofficially known as the first Motel of Princeton. Eventually the cave was demolished to make room for the Hope-Princeton Highway in 1948. The highway allowed easier access to the otherwise secluded town due to large mountain ranges on both sides on Princeton. Today the town has a ice arena, outdoor pool, hospital, community centre, public library, museum and lots of park spaces. Princeton offers recreational experiences in dance, theatre, music and different art programs. There are many lakes, trails and outdoor adventure waiting for you in Princeton BC.
