Saanich is a municipality located in the Capital Regional District of British Columbia. With a population of over 117,000, it is one of the largest municipalities in the province. Saanich is also one of the greenest municipalities, with over 103 square kilometers of parkland and green space. Some of the municipality's notable features include Mount Douglas Park, Swan Lake Christmas Hill Nature Sanctuary, and the Saanich Inlet. Saanich is named after the Saanich First Nation people, meaning "emerging land" or "emerging people". Saanich is home to part of the University of Victoria. Saanich blends both the rural and urban popultion on Vancouver Island. They strive to be a municipality the serves the people with their motto " Populo Serviendo". The backroads of Saanich are dotted with small wineries and home to traditional cider maker and an artisanal gin distillery with farmer's produce stands along the way. The perfect area for a Sunday drive and picnic. Cadboro beach is the most popular beach in Saanich and it is not hard to see why. The sandy beach is welcoming and the view of the Juan de Fuca straight is incredible. Complete with a children's playground and boat launch, this is a great place to spend the day.
