Salmo

Salmo is a vibrant and friendly community in the heart of the Kootenays. With a population of just over 1140, it's the perfect place to enjoy all the amenities of a small town while being surrounded by some of the most stunning scenery in British Columbia. In the early 1900s, increased mining in the area triggered initial growth of the community. Incorporated in 1946, Salmo now benefits from people passing through using the towns services. Perhaps its greatest name to fame since the 20th century is the annual Shambala Music Festival. Held during the last week of July at the Salmo River Ranch, a five hundred acre farm in the West Kootenay Mountains. Shambala is an electronic music festival that last four days and three nights and offers a mix of music and nature. From hiking and biking in the summer to skiing and snowboarding in the winter, Salmo has something for everyone.
