Silverton

The municipality of Silverton is located in the Central Kootenay region of British Columbia. With a population of 149, it's a small and tight-knit community with a lot to offer. At just 0.35 km², Silverton is one of the smallest municipalities in the province, but it packs a punch when it comes to things to do. There are plenty of hiking and biking trails to explore, as well as a number of lakes and rivers for fishing, swimming, and canoeing. And, in the winter, the nearby mountains are perfect for skiing and snowboarding. The name comes from Four Mile Creek that flows though town, it was sometimes called Silverton Creek. Historians believe the creek was name Four Mile because that was the distance to the neighboring town of New Denver. Today Silverton has a dental clinic, self storage, chiropractor, skating arena, curling rink, historical interpretive centre and more. Silverton might be the second smallest municipality in BC, but it is a popular camping destination with a large campground that is utilized by visitors and locals. Dance lessons, art fairs, concerts and social events are all held at The Memorial Hall.
