Surrey is a large city in British Columbia, located just outside of Vancouver. With a population of over 568,000, it is one of the biggest cities in the province. Surrey is a great place to live, work, and raise a family. There are plenty of parks and recreation areas, as well as top-rated schools. The city is also home to a vibrant arts and culture scene. Surrey was originally incorporated in 1879 shortly after settlers first arrived in Cloverdale (south surrey) when they came to fish, farm and harvest oysters or set up small stores. Once the Pattullo Bridge was erected in 1937, Surrey was able to expand bringing in more residents and more services. In the 1980s and 1990s the city experienced unprecedented growth as people from around the world, particularly Asia, began to make the move. Surrey is one of the largest industrial centres within British Columbia, with industries such as high technology, clean energy, advanced manufacturing, health, education, agriculture and an arts sector. The health sector employs a large number of the cities residents and 900 health-related businesses. Farming is well integrated into Surrey's economy, with one third of the cities land is preserved and designated farmland. Surrey is balanced between city and parks with lots of greenspace and nature focus with guided Nature Walks. Getting around the city is easy with the support of Translink, which provides frequent bus service and to other metropolitan cities. Along with the buses is the the sky train, it provides a direct link to down town Vancouver. Come be a apart of a great city!
