Nestled in the heart of the Peace River region, Taylor is a hidden gem in British Columbia. With a population of just over 1300, this small municipality offers a tight-knit community feel that is perfect for raising a family. Taylor is also home to some of the most beautiful scenery in the province, with the 16.92 km² area providing ample opportunity to explore the great outdoors. The town is named after Donald Herbet Taylor, a homesteader who moved from Manitoba to the Peace River Crossing (now known as Peace River Alberta). He married Charlotte and the young couple moved to Hudson's Hope to work for the Hudson's Bay Company. In 1912 Donald Herbert Taylor and his wife moved back to the Peace River crossing and were the first family to settle on the flats. In 1923 a post office was opened and the town name officially became, Taylor. Today the small community gas a golf course, swimming pool, ice arena, curling club, public library and many parks and green spaces. Taylor's economy is heavily supported by industrial plants like the West Coast Energy's McMahon plant for natural gas, two straddle plants that extract ethane, a pulp mill, and many smaller sawmills. Taylor has a workforce of about 775 people, and with Fort St. John only 12 km north, many residents travel to the neighboring town for employment opportunities. With the demand for forestry products slowing down, Taylor has shifted their focus to try and bring in more tourism with the development of Peace Island Park. It is a scenic 121 site campground on the Peace River, with full service and non-powered sites available. Whether you're looking for a quiet place to call home or an adventure-filled getaway, Taylor is the perfect spot.
