About

Located just north of Vancouver, Lions Bay is a beautiful municipality that offers stunning views of the ocean and mountains. With a population of just under 1400, it is a great place to raise a family or retire. The town has a rich history and was once home to the Squamish First Nations people. It is now a thriving community with plenty of amenities and activities for residents and visitors alike. In 1889 the two distinctive twin peaks in the North Shore were dubbed "The Lions" by Judge Gray for their resemblance to lion statues. CN railway came to town in 1954 and highway 99 brought in permanent residences, before that the area was mostly summer cottages. In 1971 the district changed from a Water Improvement District to a Village Municipality, with a major and four councilors. The small town now has over 500 year round houses, a community garden, library, shops, restaurants and beautiful parks. Each year thousand of trail enthusiasts trek in the backcountry for multi-day hikes where they make their way to mountain tops for beautiful views of the ocean. The town puts forth great effort to restrict and monitor their water usage, planning for the sustainability of the town in the future. Lions Bay is a certified bird friendly town. This means the town has met or exceeded a minimum standard with regard to reducing threats to birds, protecting and restoring natural habitat and increasing climate resiliency. A town that cares!
