Merritt is a beautiful municipality located in the Thompson-Nicola Regional District of British Columbia. With a population of 7051 and an area of 26.04 km², it's the perfect place to call home. Merritt is the first big community after travelling along the first stretch of the Coquihalla Highway and a hub for all other major highways in British Columbia. Merritt has been a meeting place for travelers for over 100 years when the Europeans, first nations and pioneers started to gather here. The first settlers in Merritt were ranchers and they were drawn in because of the gently rolling grasslands. Buildings and a town started to form after industries such as copper, nickel , gold and silver mining and forestry started to boom in the area. Today Ranching, farming, farming, forestry, transportation and tourism are the main industries in Merritt. Not only is Merritt easily assessable from other cities it also has multiple water systems moving through the town, and leading to small lakes, providing a lot of outdoor recreation opportunities. All great for fishing, hiking, dirt biking, snowmobiling and more. The long hours of sunlight and low levels of precipitation make this a great place to be outside. In town you will find a bike park, skateboard park, dog park, running track, multiuse sport track, tennis court, disk golf, indoor swimming pool, ice arena and more. Merritt is a small town with small town feels but the great thing is, you're three hours away from multiply major airports. Giving loads of opportunities for travel and home recreations.
